Anyone who knows me knows that I don't like dogs and that I never wanted one. So, why has Maggie joined our family. I can give you six reasons why - Andy, Brittany, Allison, Caitlyn, Garrett and Brandon. While I might not have a love for 4 legged creatures - it appears that rest of my family does. So, after a lot of praying and debating, I agreed to have a dog enter our lives.
The kids found out at Christmas that we were getting a dog. They were then taught a little patience as we had to wait a few weeks to pick her out. We were going out of town three times in a few weeks so it seemed like the best thing to do was wait. So, we came home from my cousins wedding yesterday and we were off to the SPCA as soon as Brandon awoke from his nap.
One of my biggest fears when we got there was that I would have 5 children pick 5 different dogs and a fight would start over which dog would become the beloved family pet. To my pleasant surprise, all 5 children and daddy agreed on the same dog. Even more surprising, they all thought that the name she already had, Maggie, was perfect. Could this get any more heaven sent?
We got a bit of surprise at that moment. Everything I read on-line said that the adoption process would take 3-5 days to complete. Well, Maggie it would seem, was ready to go right then. YIKES!! We had nothing for a dog and it is late on Sunday and PetsMart is closing. We decided to make the best of it and loaded Maggie into the van and headed home. We had a little bit of dog food from the shelter and my friend, Cathy, loaned us a crate and Maggie is now at home. Obviously, there will be a major run to the pet store today!
The kids are in heaven, daddy's is heaven (he has waited for 13 years of marriage for this moment) and well, mommy is hoping to get there!! The dog fear in me cannot leave overnight but am I going to give it my best shot to fall in love with Maggie. Wish me some luck!
Without letting another moment pass, let me introduce you to Maggie.
Brittany and Allison with Maggie - did I mention how long the line was - I guess that is a good thing lots of animals being adopted.
Gotta stretch those legs!
